BPC-157 is a small peptide composed of 15 amino acids, which are the building blocks of proteins. The peptide is derived from part of the body protection compound (BPC) that is naturally produced by cells in the stomach. The powerful discovery that the peptide exhibits organ-protective and direct cell protection led to its further development. Further studies later show that BPC-157 treatment in animal studies leads to the healing of many different tissues, including skin, muscles, tendons, ligaments and bones. Further experiments also show significant differences between BPC-157-treated and untreated animals and make it clear that a strong, promoting involvement of BPC in the healing process was achieved through multiple biological pathways. Significantly more new blood vessels grow in animals treated with BPC-157 compared to controls, showing that the peptide positively influences the healing process by stimulating angiogenesis in damaged tissue. The peptide also stimulates higher collagen and reticulin synthesis, and these compounds are necessary for the recovery and organization of repair of injured tissue.
